Bitumen 60/70 is a penetration grade bitumen with a penetration of 60–70 (0.1 mm at 25 °C, ASTM D5). It is the standard paving grade for road construction and hot-mix asphalt base and wearing courses. Petroseal Enterprises supplies 60/70 in steel drums and bulk across Pakistan and exports it from Karachi to buyers in Europe.

What is bitumen 60/70?

Bitumen is a black or dark-brown, non-crystalline, viscous material obtained from crude oil by fractional distillation. It is adhesive and waterproof, and it is thermoplastic: it softens when heated and hardens as it cools. Penetration-grade bitumen is designated by its penetration range alone.

Bitumen 10/20 vs 60/70 vs 80/100

The two numbers are the penetration range: how far a standard needle sinks into the bitumen at 25 °C, in tenths of a millimetre. A lower number means a harder bitumen.

Bitumen 10/20 (penetration 10–20) is the hardest grade, used for high-modulus asphalt. Bitumen 60/70 (60–70) is the standard paving grade for hot-mix asphalt base and wearing courses. Bitumen 80/100 (80–100) is softer and is also used to make bitumen emulsions, cutback bitumen and modified bitumen.

Frequently asked questions

+What is bitumen 60/70?

Bitumen 60/70 is a penetration grade bitumen whose needle penetration at 25 °C is 60 to 70 tenths of a millimetre (ASTM D5). It is the standard paving grade used to make hot-mix asphalt for road base and wearing courses.

+What does 60/70 mean in bitumen?

60/70 is the penetration range. A standard needle sinks 6.0 to 7.0 mm into the bitumen at 25 °C under a 100 g load for 5 seconds. A lower number means harder bitumen, so 60/70 is harder than 80/100 and softer than 10/20.

+What is the difference between bitumen 60/70 and 80/100?

Bitumen 80/100 is softer, with a penetration of 80–100 compared with 60–70. Both are paving grades and share the same ductility, flash point and solubility limits. 80/100 is also commonly used to make bitumen emulsions, cutback bitumen and modified bitumen.

+Which tests are on the bitumen 60/70 certificate?

Each batch Certificate of Analysis reports penetration (ASTM D5), ductility (ASTM D113), flash point (ASTM D92), loss on heating (ASTM D6), retained penetration and ductility after heating, and solubility in trichloroethylene (ASTM D2042).

+Do you export bitumen 60/70 from Pakistan?

Yes. Petroseal Enterprises exports bitumen 60/70 from Karachi to buyers in Europe, in new steel drums or in bulk. All Incoterms 2020 rules are available on request, and every shipment is documented with a COA, SDS, certificate of origin and packing list.

+Do you supply bitumen 60/70 within Pakistan?

Yes. Petroseal supplies bitumen 60/70 all over Pakistan in steel drums or bulk. Contact us with the quantity, packaging and delivery city for a quotation.
